10 Great Reasons To Choose ISSOS at Yale

We know it can be difficult to choose between our 3 amazing ISSOS Summer School campuses, so we’ve rounded up our top 10 reasons to choose our American program - ISSOS at Yale.

Yale Large

1. Because it's safe

This is at the top of the list for all 3 campuses, because it was the most important factor in choosing to set up our summer schools where we did. St Andrews is a small rural town on the east coast of Scotland with essentially just 3 main streets. It’s a very safe town to walk around and exploring its medieval cobbled lanes on foot is a must for our students.

2. Because its YALE!

You don’t get many chances to live and study in a university like Yale. This is summer in the Ivy League and it’s your chance to experience life in one of America’s most iconic and prestigious university campuses. It is frequently listed as one of the most beautiful university campuses in America, and the Grace Hopper College where our students will be housed for 2020 has a range of great facilities for our students to take advantage of.

3. World-class sporting facilities

College sports in the United States take things to another level, and the sporting facilities that we take advantage of at Yale are world-class. From the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Centre to the Payne Whitney Gym, our students will be using the same facilities that Yale’s Championship-winning college athletes do.

4. Summer sun

We are not saying that it never rains at Yale, but summer in America can generally be trusted for some hot sunny weather just a little bit more than our campuses in the UK!

5. Follow in some famous footsteps

If you choose Debate at Yale, you will be following in the footsteps of 5 former US Presidents who attended this Ivy League campus (George H. W. Bush, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Gerald Ford and William Howard Taft). Theatre students will be treading the boards on stages that Oscar winners Paul Newman, Meryll Streep and Jodie Foster once stood on, and Yale has also produced the winners of over 110 Olympic medals and 52 Nobel Prizes.

6. Visit New York City

Day trips don’t come much better than a visit one of the world’s most iconic and exciting cities, New York! Our Yale students will walk the same streets made famous by countless movie scenes, visit Times Square, see Broadway, shop on 5th Avenue or visit MOMA, the world’s leading modern art museum.

Our other Saturday trip for the Yale students is to Boston. It’s home to Harvard University and is dominated by amazing shops, cafes and restaurants. Students will take a walking tour of the city and learn about Boston's rich history, walk along the Freedom Trail and have the opportunity to explore all the shops Boston has to offer and the unique Quincy Markets.

In addition to Saturdays, our Wednesday trips are half-day outings, and from Yale this means the opportunity to experience 2 of the following 4 options: a walking tour of the entire Yale campus, the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History, the Connecticut Science Centre or a Ten Pin Bowling trip.

7. A rich academic history

Yale was founded in 1701, which makes it the 3rd oldest university in the United States. Its libraries hold over 15 million books and its Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library is one of the world’s largest buildings devoted entirely to rare books. The Yale Daily News is the oldest daily collegiate newspaper and has been published daily since 1878.

8. The Academic classes

The options at all 3 of our campuses vary, with some subjects being offered in more than one location. But wherever you choose to go the standard of teaching you can expect for your chosen subject will be second to none. We pride ourselves on finding the very best in their field to teach our academic subjects - teachers who are not only highly qualified but have real-life experience in their subjects too.

10. The ISSOS Experience

The list of reasons to choose any of our campuses start and end with the same two points, because they are what makes our summer school so special.

We limit the number of any one nationality to just 10% at all of our locations, so students get a truly international, unique and exciting experience where they can combine learning, creative enrichment and action-packed adventure.

They will join a Clan, make friends for life and generally have The Experience Of A Lifetime. Don't just take our word for it - read our student testimonials.
