ISSOS Sponsors the St Andrews University Union Debating Society

Debate is one of the most popular academic options across all 3 ISSOS Summer School campuses and we can’t endorse the benefits enough. Students taking debate not only improve their public speaking skills, but through structured and well researched arguments it encourages them to intelligently evaluate and question the world around them.

St Andrews is where the ISSOS story began with our first summer school back in 2006, so we are delighted to be able to combine our passion for debate with our home campus in sponsoring the St Andrews University Union Debating Society (UDS) for the 2018/19 term.

Founded in 1794 the St Andrews UDS is the oldest of its kind and has a rich history which has produced many leading public figures, both at home in the UK and on the world-wide stage. Debate training is held every Wednesday during University term time, and beyond St Andrews the UDS competes successfully at competitions around the world.

Schools Outreach

Our company values are behind everything we do at ISSOS, so for us sponsoring the UDS aligns strongly with our social responsibility to give back to a community that gives so much to us in St Andrews. Even more importantly, the UDS values also line up with our own. Through their active schools’ outreach program they help local schools run their debating clubs, provide help with the more technical aspects of debate and encourage more young people to try it for themselves.
