ISSOS Program Director

Simply put, I go back to ISSOS each year because I love it! I enjoy the challenge, pushing myself outside my comfort zone, immersing myself in the stories and people from all over the world and learning new things every day. Being with students from so many countries and cultures, and managing a team of staff who have all come together from so many different schools is such a challenge. It has been amazing for my professional development, not to mention so much fun and incredibly rewarding.

ISSOS Program Assistant

I have worked at ISSOS for 2 summers now and it is an experience that I will cherish for life. I made friends with like-minded, driven people who truly care about educating young people and giving students the best experiences. I love doing this in my day job as a primary teacher and it's just as fulfilling doing this job for ISSOS in the summer. This is truly a place where you can learn academically and personally, build relationships, and have a lot of fun!

Being able to spend the summer teaching something I am so passionate about, as part of a wonderful team, in beautiful St Andrews, makes me feel truly lucky. But without a doubt, the best part of my ISSOS experience was watching my students nurture and share their own creativity, as well as being part of the fun and supportive class environment that they all helped to create.

My summer working for ISSOS was exciting, fun, exhilarating, positively challenging and completely life changing for me on a personal level. The ISSOS tagline is “the experience of a lifetime” and I can vouch for every word of it. Every single one of the ISSOS staff have unique individual experiences, talent and charisma. From day one I felt overwhelmed at how close we all became and I feel lucky that some of the best memories I have made in life to date were with them. I loved every day of teaching my class, and I still can’t quite believe how amazing my summer working for ISSOS was.

Working with ISSOS is truly like working for a family business where we are all part of the family. I had no idea what to expect when I first began, but I was amazed at how supportive, helpful, and fun the whole staff were to work with. The students are intelligent, fun, and really want to learn, as well as play, which is a wonderful combination for a more academic summer camp. Teaching at ISSOS is professionally and personally rewarding in ways I won’t forget.

I had absolutely no idea what to expect from my first summer teaching at ISSOS.  Having heard about it, I knew it would be a good experience - but this would be an EXTREME Understatement. Teaching at ISSOS was fun, exciting, positive and I met such inspirational and like-minded people who I consider friends to this day! Working with a class, as a photography teacher, was not only a joy seeing what my students created each week, but also I learned from my students the many perspectives creativity consists of.  ISSOS will forever be a cherished experience that I can’t wait to repeat!

"Education works both ways. I went to ISSOS to teach and ended up learning lots. My prejudices were challenged and the kids there blew my mind with the themes they were ready to tackle in their films and the maturity with which they did. Of course the staff, management and general family-feel made the whole experience more like a holiday than like a job, but as we sat in the theatre watching the students' finished films I knew we had done something special that would follow these young people into their future."
