Cultural Trips

Find out which exciting cities you will have the chance to visit on our cultural trips if you join us in Yale this summer.

Yale University campus with gothic-style architecture

We know that students are with us during their summer holidays, which is why we make sure that ISSOS is packed with fun activities and cultural enrichment.

Our trips are all carefully planned in advance and are supervised by our trusted team of summer school staff, so that we can confidently give our students the freedom to explore and spend time with their new friends.

Saturday Trips from Yale

Our summer school students in Yale will spend all day on Saturdays exploring Boston and New York City.

Boston - Boston is one of America's oldest and most historical cities dating back to 1630. It's home to one of the oldest seats of learning in the world, Harvard University, and is dominated by amazing shops, cafes and restaurants. Students will explore the city and learn about Boston's rich history, walk along the revolutionary landmark of the Freedom Trail and will have the opportunity to explore all the shops Boston has to offer and experience the Quincy Markets.

New York - New York is one of the world's most iconic cities. Students at ISSOS will get the chance to walk through Central Park, experience the world-famous shopping on 5th Ave, go into St Patrick's Cathedral, or shop at the Rockefeller Center.

Due to the number of students and the size of New York City, students can choose to visit just one of these locations from the list below:

The American Museum of Natural History: One of the largest museums in the world, in addition to a planetarium and a library. With exhibitions covering every subject of interest, this is a day of exploring and endless discovery.

MOMA: The world's leading modern art museum with pieces by legendary painters like Vincent Van Gogh, Jackson Pollock, Claude Monet, and more. MOMA also has a beautiful garden where students can relax in the sun.

Times Square: The most iconic location in New York City. Students can walk along Broadway for endless photo opportunities, or buy a hotdog from a New York hot dog stand. There are hundreds of shops that students can explore or they can just admire the sights and lights of Times Square itself.

5th Avenue & St Patrick's Cathedral: 5th Ave is home to some of the best shops in NYC and students can walk down the Avenue and end up at St Patrick's Cathedral where students can explore this stunning Cathedral in the heart of NYC.

Half Day Trips from Yale

Students will choose two of the following half-day trips to go on, on a Wednesday afternoon. These trips are chosen in advance, when we send out our Student Questionnaire ahead of students’ arrival.

River Kayaking - Enjoy an afternoon of kayaking on the Branford River, led by experienced instructors. Branford River runs through Connecticut to Long Island Sound, and students can enjoy beautiful views while hanging out on the river with friends.

Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History

Yale University’s earliest museum collection began in the 18th century and was a miscellaneous assortment of "natural and artificial curiosities” from around the world. The collection of specimens which Professor Benjamin Sillman used in his pioneering teaching of geology and mineralogy, became one of the principal attractions for visitors to New Haven.

High Ropes Course - The world's largest indoor ropes course is located a short bus ride from Yale. Students can experience the bright light, music-filled ropes course for a great way to spend the afternoon. We do not recommend this to students who may be scared of heights.

Yale Art Gallery - The Yale University Art Gallery is the oldest university art museum in the Western Hemisphere. It houses a major collection of art in several interconnected buildings on the campus of Yale University.

Yale University Tour - Hear about Yale’s rich 300-year history and aspects of student life at several of Yale’s twelve residential colleges. The tour also includes the Gothic Sterling Memorial Library, Yale’s largest, and the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library.

Ten Pin Bowling (full summer school trip) - On the final trip day of each session all students and staff are invited to go ten-pin bowling. This is a great trip that allows everyone to hang out and spend time bonding before they prepare to leave and return home.
