Student Safety and Welfare

At ISSOS, keeping our students safe, supported, and happy is our top priority.

From the moment they arrive to the day they leave, students are well looked after and guided throughout their three-week experience with us. We encourage independence and personal growth, but always within a carefully managed and secure environment.

Arriving at ISSOS

When students arrive on campus, they’re introduced to their dedicated counselor, someone who’s there to support them every step of the way. Counselors help students settle in, bond as a group, wake them each morning, join them for breakfast, and walk students to class.

In the evenings, students take part in our evening programme before returning to their accommodation for a 10pm curfew. Everyone checks in with their counselor, is in their own room by 10.30pm and it's lights out at 11pm to make sure everyone gets a good night’s rest.

Daily Check-ins and Student Independence

Counselors “check-in” all students at least three times a day (five times on weekdays when students go to classes), through morning wake-up, mealtimes, classes, activities, and evening curfew. These regular check-ins are how we know that students are always accounted for and supported throughout the day.

Outside of these check-ins, students are encouraged to explore their surroundings and enjoy their time away from home, all within a safe and secure environment, where our team is never too far away to help if it’s needed.

Policies and Procedures

We have a clear set of policies and procedures in place that our staff teams follow to support the safety and wellbeing of everyone at ISSOS.

For details about arrival and departure, including travel guidance, please visit our Important Information page.

Our Locations

Our campuses are all based in beautiful university towns with friendly communities and a strong reputation for safety. Students have free time from 4pm to 6pm each day to explore the area around campus, and after the first few days can also choose to go into town for lunch or dinner if they want to. This time is closely monitored, with clear boundaries in place to make sure students enjoy their independence responsibly and safely.

Our Staff

All ISSOS staff go through the thorough, legal background checks required for working with young people. Our campus teams are on-site 24/7, and all outdoor or specialist activities are run by qualified instructors. When we work with external providers, for example for transport, we carry out thorough checks to make sure everything meets our high safety standards.
