Why Choose ISSOS?
Choosing the right summer programme is a big decision, especially when it means your son or daughter will be travelling to another country. At ISSOS, we’ve spent nearly twenty years perfecting a truly unique experience that balances academic excellence, creative inspiration and cultural exploration. Here’s what sets us apart:

All-inclusive fees
Our straightforward, all-inclusive pricing means no surprise extras. Tuition, accommodation, meals, excursions, activities and insurance are all covered. Parents can rest assured knowing that everything has been taken care of with no hidden costs, just one simple fee for an exceptional experience.
Ideal, 3-week residential programme length
Research has shown that three weeks is the perfect length of time for students to settle in, build meaningful friendships, and really benefit from an experience. Where most other programmes are two weeks long, three weeks at ISSOS gives valuable extra time for students to feel at home and relax in their new environment.
Established for 20+ years
ISSOS is one of the UK’s longest-running international summer schools. With two decades of experience, we’ve developed a deep understanding of what students need to thrive, both academically and socially. Our reputation for excellence is built on years of happy students and satisfied families.
Beautiful, safe and world-renowned locations
All of our campuses are based in iconic university towns: St Andrews, Cambridge and Yale. These locations aren’t just beautiful, they’re steeped in history, recognised around the world, and provide a safe, inspiring environment for young people to live and learn.
Academic excellence and creative enrichment
We believe that education shouldn’t be boring. Our students choose one academic and one elective, all led by inspiring teachers who deliver engaging and exciting lessons, regardless of the subject.
Exciting activities, evening programmes and cultural trips
Outside the classroom, students enjoy a packed schedule of additional activities. From debate nights to talent shows, outdoor adventures and trips to nearby cities, there’s never a dull moment. It’s all designed to help students relax, try new things and make lifelong memories.
Students from over 100 nationalities
Our campuses are truly international, welcoming students from over 80 different countries each summer. This creates a vibrant, global atmosphere where our students can learn about different cultures, religions, perspectives and ways of thinking.
Culturally diverse campuses creating international friendships
Students live and learn alongside peers from all over the world, forming friendships that cross borders and often last well beyond the summer. Many of our alumni stay in touch for years to come.
Each nationality is limited to 10%
To ensure a truly international experience, we cap each nationality at no more than 10% of the student body. This unique policy helps create a balanced mix of cultures, so no single group dominates, and everyone is encouraged to step out of their comfort zone and connect with others.
Native and non-native English speakers mixed at all times
We mix native and non-native English speakers throughout the programme to create an immersive language environment. This helps students who are learning English to develop confidence and fluency, while encouraging new friendships and shared experiences.
Highly experienced teachers with real-life working knowledge of their subjects
Our teaching staff are not just good teachers, they’re working professionals with real-world experience in their fields. Whether it’s a filmmaker teaching Film, or a business expert leading our Business & Entrepreneurship class, students learn from those who truly know their subject and bring it to life.
All of our staff live on campus
We build a strong sense of community by having all staff, including teachers, counselors and programme directors, live on campus with the students. It creates a supportive, family-like environment where students always have someone to turn to and feel cared for throughout their stay.
A well-balanced programme focussing on educating heart and head
We believe education should develop character as well as intellect. That’s why our programme encourages leadership, kindness, self-confidence and independence, alongside academic growth and creative enrichment.
45% of students return year after year
Almost half of our students return to ISSOS for another summer, a strong reflection of the friendships they make and the unforgettable experiences they have. These returners help us to welcome new students, adding to the sense of warmth, belonging and community that makes ISSOS so special.
Well-supervised, cultural experience
Safety is always our top priority. Our students are well looked after with 24/7 supervision and a carefully planned programme that offers the freedom to explore new places within a structured and safe environment.
