Study Skills

Students will develop essential academic study skills, from effective writing and research skills to exam preparation and public speaking, helping them prepare for the final years of high school and early years of university.

Study Skills Summer Programme

As students go into their final years of high school and prepare for university, the ability to study effectively becomes even more important. Our 3-week study skills summer school programme gives students a range of vital tools for success in a variety of challenging academic programmes.

This course covers key skills including critical thinking and research methods, essay writing and structuring, public speaking and presentations, time management and techniques to help with academic stress.

Academic classes run for 3 hours every weekday morning and are paired with an elective class choice, allowing students to explore different interests and develop a well-rounded academic profile.

What Students Will Learn

Our Study Skills programme teaches students advanced skills designed to give them essential tools for success in the final years of high school and going on to university study.

Over the course of our 3-week programme, students will sharpen their critical thinking abilities, learning to assess information and develop more effective, independent learning.

We will cover research methods, teaching practical skills for gathering and presenting research, including how to find reliable sources, and techniques like speed reading will be introduced to help students increase efficiency when doing research.

A key focus is also on writing skills for essays and academic papers. Students will learn to construct well-reasoned arguments, organise ideas and write with clarity and impact. The course will also cover plagiarism and proper referencing.

Public speaking and presentation skills will be worked on too, as well as time management strategies, and techniques for managing academic stress, helping with mental well-being and staying focused during challenging studies.

For students with English as a second language, this course will be useful in improving academic English and give them confidence in applying to English speaking universities.

Students can also sign up to attend our University Admissions Workshop. This is offered at all 3 campuses and gives valuable information about the university admissions process.

*Before arrival, any students with English as a second language will be asked to complete a British Council English Language Test. We do this to make sure that everyone is in a suitable class and will get the most out of their time at ISSOS.
