Clans and Highland Games

Clans and Highland Games

Outside of classes, all students take part in our exciting and varied summer school programme of activities and events.

Always one of the most popular parts of our programme - team spirit and friendly rivalry come to life in our Clans and Highland Games!

Clans and Highland Games at ISSOS

We are a proudly Scottish company and we like to celebrate our roots. As a result, the ISSOS Clans have become one of the most popular parts of our programme. We have four student clans: MacDonald, Stewart, MacGregor and Wallace. Each is represented by a different colour, and students are welcomed into their clan at our Clan Calling event in the first few days of the programme. Brothers and sisters of alumni students will be welcomed into the same clan as their family members were, and returning students are always part of their same original clan. In the final week of the programme, the clan events culminate in the ISSOS Highland Games, after which the clan Cup and Spirit shield will be awarded.

What are Clans and Highland Games?

Clans represent the heart and soul of friendly competition, good sportsmanship and teamwork.

During the three weeks, Clans compete in a variety of evening programmes, judged by our impartial staff clan, the Munros.

Points are awarded at each event which all build up and go towards hopefully winning the Clan Cup.Clan Calling, held at the start of the programme, sets the tone with energy and excitement, and welcomes students into their Clans.

Then events like Mini Olympics, Scottish Country Dancing, and Ultimate Frisbee, all count in helping earn points toward the coveted Clan Cup.

The finale comes with the Highland Games, where students have one last chance to compete for points that could help them win the Clan Cup. From Welly Throwing to relay races, the energy on Highland Games day is hard to describe - it’s energetic, competitive, emotional, and the bonds that our students have built over the three week programme are so clear to see.

The day ends with our Final Night Dinner, the piping in of the haggis, and the highly anticipated awarding of the Clan Cup and Spirit Shield.

It’s an unforgettable way to end the ISSOS experience, full of pride, tradition, and lasting friendships.
