ISSOS - It’s a small world after all.
We work together, we play together, we live and grow together, we are the ISSOS International Family
Harnessing the power of the global ISSOS family to help others
Occasionally something happens that makes us stop and reminds us that we are all connected and that we need to reach out and help those in trouble.
Last week ISSOS was yet again reminded of our ever growing family that spreads across the world. With the tragic Typhoon that hit the Philippines our immediate thought was of our current and alumni students living in the Philippines, thankfully all are safe.
With a summer program that welcomes over 64 nationalities every year there is never a world event that does not impact our students and staff in some way.
Over the years we have had a number of students from the Philippines and we have been lucky enough to have welcomed four students from the one family who have played a significant part in our ISSOS family -- David Aboitiz who attended ISSOS in 2007, followed by Caroline, his sister in 2009 and then by Nicolas and Sara in 2011.
The Aboitiz family have a foundation that has been set up to give assistance to victims of super typhoon "Yolanda."
The Abotiz Foundation will extend assistance to around 6,500 families in the hardest hit areas in Northern Cebu. It will also give out basic needs such as water, rice, canned goods, noodles, biscuits, and hygiene kits.
As an International Summer school with students from all over the world we are committed to assisting all of our students (past and present) to grow and develop, as such we have chosen to donate to the foundation in an affort to assist with those in the Philippines affected by this tragedy. We know that friends of ISSOS students will be affected either directly or indirectly by the tragedy in the Phillipipens with this in mind we would like to assist by reaching out to our international community of ISSOS and ask you to consider donating to the relief effort through the following link. http://ushare.unionbankph.com/aboitiz/
How entrepreneurship can be one of the ways we make a difference
Entrepreneurship and service to others is one of the core values of ISSOS. ISSOS founder Jen Munro recently took part in a global summit in Delhi, India, with the purpose to assist India's young entrepreneurs. Jen went to India with an organization called Power of Youth; Power of youth is an organization set up to create and support a global network of entrepreneurs all under the age of 35 who run value led businesses.
The summit held in Delhi saw 15 International entrepreneurs and 15 Indian entrepreneurs come together to take part in a 10 day summit designed to assist with personal growth but also to design a legacy to assist India's young entrepreneurs.
When asked about the trip Jen commented “Entrepreneurship has always been something close to my heart and I believe it is one of the many ways we can create significant change in the world for the better. To be part of a group of people who are passionate about what they do and to have a collective group who believe they can make a positive change in the world is nothing short of mind blowing. I am proud that myself and ISSOS could be part of the Power of Youth Summit in India”.
What our students say about ISSOS
“Three years ago when I arrived at ISSOS for my first time I did not realise how great a summer I was going to have and how great my next three years would be. Everything there is outstanding! From the counselors and staff to the students and activities, nothing is less than brilliant! I've made so many new friends that I keep in touch with even to this very day!, At this place friendships are made, life lessons are learned, and the definition of fun is raised to another level. I go back so many times because each year is a new experience, The best part about ISSOS is not just seeing old faces, but more importantly seeing new faces and meeting new people. Every year when I come back from ISSOS I tell my family and friends about all the different cultures I know now, and they are beyond jealous. ISSOS is a fantastic place to be, and after just one summer, I guarantee you will be signing up for another 3 sessions at least!”
