ISSOS Turns 10!
Date: February 12, 2016
ISSOS was started to create a safe place for people to learn and grow. With a desire to help young people, a quote seen by our Managing Director sparked the creation of ISSOS. This quote is on our office wall and in all of our training manuals:
“One hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in or how much money I had in the bank, the world will be a little better because I was important in the life of a child.”
If you would like to hear more of why ISSOS was created, please watch Jen Munro, ISSOS founder's, Tedx Talk.
In 2006 we welcomed 51 students to the first summer of ISSOS, it was an amazing summer and we are still in touch with many of the students and staff from that year. The first student to arrive at ISSOS in 2006 was Amadeep Bakshi from India. Amandeep went on to study Political Science at London School of Economics and his brother, Ramandeep, attended ISSOS 3 years later. Amandeep emailed recently to tell us how special that summer at ISSOS was, that meeting people from all over the world changed his life. It was that first summer we realized what we were doing at ISSOS, was creating an international family, and that is what we have gone out of our way to do ever since.
Ten years on and it is the family atmosphere of ISSOS that makes it unique and sets it apart from other summer programs. We do not have a desire to be the biggest summer school, but we do strive to be the best and above everything, we want to promote an understanding, a safety and an acceptance of all that comes from an international family atmosphere. It is the international mix of students and the power and positive effect of bringing so many different nationalities together in one place for three weeks, that drives us and has made us realize that in our own way, ISSOS can have a positive impact on changing the world.
We have no doubt that the next ten years will be full of more friendships, laughter, education and amazing experiences. Our tag line “The Experience of a Lifetime” is something we take seriously, we are not trying to provide a three week experience that ends when the students go home, we are offering something that impacts students far beyond that. With amazing friendships born at ISSOS that have lasted 10 years, we see on Facebook and receive emails from students who have met up all over the world, gone on holiday together, met up at university, lived together, worked for staff or come back and worked at ISSOS, which is proof that friendships last long after the summer ends. We have also helped students with job and university applications and have developed great relationships with a number of parents over the years.
ISSOS is all about people and we have had the immense pleasure of working with some incredible people who are passionate about what they do and who want to pass that on to students. We have worked with and have homes at, three of the worlds best universities and have welcomed over 4000 students who have come to us from over 90 nationalities and who have taught us so much.
We would like to thank everyone who has been part of the journey and we are excited for you all to be part of the next ten years.
“We work together, we play together, we live and grow together, we are the ISSOS international family”
