A Day in the Life of an ISSOS Student by Sarah Sorensen

Sarah Sorensen

7:45 am

At 7:45 am, We meet up with our assigned counselor, Rosie. She ensures that we know what the evening activity for the night is.

Breakfast at ISSOS

8:00 am

Like all students, I meet my friends in the dinner hall at St. Regulus for breakfast. After breakfast we are all called into our academic groups, so that we can walk to our classes together.

Classes at ISSOS

9:00 am - 12:00 pm

From the variety of classes that ISSOS offers, I chose the Extended Essay class- which helps IB students (such as myself) tackle the Extended Essay (whilst, surprisingly, making it enjoyable). Today in class, we worked on the conclusion and abstract of the essay, as well as working on the main body of the essay.

12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

After the academic class, we all have lunch. Some students choose to eat in the dinner hall, and others choose to eat out in town. Today, I decided to meet up with a group of friends in the dinner hall. After lunch, we are all called into our elective classes, so that we can walk to class (just as we did with our academic classes after breakfast).

Elective Class

1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

I have chosen film as my elective class. Today, my group went out to record some of our final scenes for the film that we have been working on since the first week. In the film class, we’ve all been split into separate groups. Each group has been working on ideas, scripts, shot-lists, and storyboards for our projects.

Free time at ISSOS

4:00 pm – 6:00pm

After the elective classes, all of the students have the choice of doing an activity, which is organised by ISSOS (such as scrapbooking, dance, self-defense, yoga – the choices are endless) or have some free-time to spend with friends, or to rest in their rooms after the classes. Today I chose free-time, so that my friends and I could spend some time at a fair that was in town for a few days.

Dinner at ISSOS

6:00 pm – 7:15 pm

At 6pm we have dinner, similarly to lunch, some students decide to eat in the dinner hall, whilst others decide to go out for dinner. Today, I decided to have dinner in St Regulus dinner hall. After dinner, all students have to meet up with their counselors, and get ready for the evening activity.

Evening Activities at ISSOS

7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

After meeting up with my counselor, my counselor group join all of the other students for the evening activity. The evening activities vary, depending on what night is it. Tonight our evening activity was Scottish country dancing! The Scottish dancing we did tonight was in preparation for a bit of dancing that we’re expected to do on our final night dance.

Janetta's Ice Cream

9:30 pm- 10:00 pm

Once the Scottish dancing is finished, we have half an hour of free-time, before our curfew (which is 10pm On. The. Dot.). My friends and I run to ‘Jannetta’s Gelateria’, which is a very popular ice cream shop amongst the ISSOS students, to get some ice cream and ran back to dorms by 10pm.

10:00 pm - 11:00 pm

After having checked in with our counselor, my room mate and I get ready for bed and talk and laugh at the memories made that day.
